On Sunday, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) announced the recapture of Walgaak Payam in Jonglei State. This development followed fierce fighting with government-aligned forces, resulting in the death of Akobo County Commissioner James Kueth Makuach.
SPLA-IO spokesperson Pal Mai Deng confirmed the strategic area’s capture, praising the efforts of the opposition forces involved. “Today, SPLA-IO has captured Walgaak. The enemy has suffered heavy casualties. Details will be shared by Col. Lam Paul Gabriel shortly,” stated Deng.
