## Expanding Grain Storage Capacity in Libya
Libya must significantly expand its strategic grain storage capacity. This step is critical for protecting domestic food supplies from international price fluctuations and supply shocks, according to AbdulHakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa.
### Current Storage Limitations
Currently, Libya lacks sufficient capacity to store strategic grain reserves. This limitation hinders the country’s ability to absorb disruptions in global supplies, particularly those that arise from geopolitical tensions.
Increasing investments in grain silos and other storage facilities is essential. Such enhancements would enable Libya to better withstand fluctuations in international prices and supply shortages, Elwaer emphasized.
### Importance of Food Reserves
The necessity for stronger food reserves has grown increasingly urgent. Geopolitical disruptions are currently affecting major international trade and food-supply corridors, posing risks to food security.
