THE AFRICA TIMES | SOUTH SUDAN — The interim chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) breakaway faction, Stephen Par Kuol, has firmly rejected claims that the group has undergone a rebranding as the “IO Party.” He emphasized that the movement remains officially recognized as SPLM-IO.
Clarification on Group Identity
During the inauguration of the faction’s first headquarters in Juba, Kuol addressed misunderstandings regarding the group’s identity that have arisen due to recent changes within the opposition movement.
“We are the historical SPLM/SPLA-IO. Another thing I want to correct is that we have not changed our name. We are registered as the SPLM-IO party. Nothing has been altered,” Kuol stated.
