Concerns Raised Over Tax Compliance in South Sudan
The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has expressed alarm regarding widespread tax non-compliance within the nation. Recent reports indicate that only 1,897 out of 83,000 registered taxpayers submitted their tax returns by the legal deadline.
This revelation emerged during a media briefing held in Juba on May 23. Ajang Ajang Lino, Acting Commissioner for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division, characterized the low compliance rate as a significant hurdle to initiatives aimed at enhancing domestic revenue collection.
Challenges Facing the Tax Administration
Ajang outlined various challenges afflicting the nation’s tax administration. These issues include under-declaration of income, the non-filing of monthly tax returns, delayed payments, and inadequate financial record-keeping
