South Sudan Accidents: Land Director Killed

AWEIL – Recent accidents along highways in Aweil East and Aweil South counties have resulted in fatalities. A land survey director and a pickup truck conductor are among the victims. These incidents underscore growing concerns regarding road safety in the region.

Fatal Accidents Reported

Aweil East County Incident

Anei Chan Geng, the Director of Land and Survey for Aweil East County, died in a traffic collision. The incident occurred at Dokul along the Wanyjok–Malualbaai highway. Geng was en route to Malualbaai for official duties related to land survey and road measurement.

Eyewitness accounts indicate a collision between Geng’s motorcycle and another motorcyclist. The other rider also died shortly after being transported to Malualkon Hospital. Residents expressed distress due to the severity of the injuries and the victim’s seniority.

Aweil South County Incident

A separate incident occurred in Aweil South County involving a pickup truck conductor. The conductor died after falling from a moving vehicle on Monday. This incident further highlights the dangerous conditions present on roadways in the region.

Authorities Respond to Rising Concerns

Traffic Police Statement

Diing Reech Diing, the Director of Traffic Police, confirmed the two accidents. He attributed the incidents to factors such as overspeeding and poor riding habits. General negligence is also a contributing element.

Reech emphasized the need for heightened caution among motorists, cyclists, and passengers. He urged adherence to traffic rules to prevent further deaths. Prioritizing safety has become a crucial message from local authorities.
