Overview of Territorial Control in Sudan
Three years into Sudan’s ongoing war, the front lines have largely solidified into a de facto partition. Neither the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) nor the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has achieved a decisive breakthrough. The accompanying map illustrates the distribution of territorial control across Sudan as of April 2026, based on available field reporting and geolocation analysis.
Control in Central and Eastern Sudan
In central and eastern Sudan, the SAF retains control over most territories, including the capital, Khartoum. Key urban corridors extend through Al-Jazirah toward the Red Sea. Strategic cities such as Port Sudan, Kassala, Al-Qadarif, and Wad Madani remain under army authority, which forms the core of its administrative and logistical network.
