Violent demonstrations erupted in Naivasha, resulting in numerous injuries and substantial property damage as protests against rising fuel prices escalated.
Background of the Protests
The protests began over the increased cost of fuel and subsequent inflationary pressures. By Monday, tensions escalated as youths clashed with police, looted businesses, and set vehicles and supermarkets ablaze in various locations throughout the lakeside town.
As of Tuesday morning, major thoroughfares in Naivasha were left deserted. Transport operations were paralyzed, businesses remained shuttered, and heavily armed police officers patrolled the streets to restore order.
