Voter Registration Concerns in Makueni
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is seeking to increase voter registration. The IEBC in Makueni Constituency has appealed to residents to register. This appeal comes amidst concerns about low registration numbers.
Call for Community Involvement
Nicolas Kalimi, IEBC Assistant Election Officer (AEO), made the appeal. He urged elders, chiefs, assistants, and elected leaders for their help. Kalimi wants them to sensitize the people to improve voter registration.
Kalimi spoke on Wednesday from his office. He emphasized the need for community leaders to get involved.
Low Registration Turnout
Kalimi stated that voter registration numbers are low. He noted that only 592 voters have registered since September 29, 2025. This is despite ongoing IEBC efforts to reach eligible voters in the constituency.
Kalimi highlighted the need for increased awareness. He called on leaders to supplement IEBC efforts.
Registration Requirements Noted
Kalimi mentioned that 82 transfers have occurred from the constituency. He also reminded potential voters of the required identification. A valid passport or identity card is necessary for registration.
