Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the suspended first vice president of South Sudan, has recently made significant requests in court. During the 105th session of the ongoing trial regarding the March 2025 Nasir incident, he called for audio and video recordings of witness testimonies.
Request for Recordings
Machar, who occupies the role of the fifth accused in the case, argued that such recordings would prevent manipulation and ensure an accurate representation of the proceedings. This argument was put forth in light of the severity of the Nasir incident, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of government soldiers.
At 74 years old, Machar leads the SPLM-IO, the second-largest party in South Sudan. He contended that these recordings would provide an independent reference
