THE AFRICA TIMES | MOROCCO — Africa’s port landscape is increasingly characterized by efficiency, connectivity, and investment. Morocco’s Tanger Med has emerged as the continent’s leading container port, as reflected in the latest global performance ranking. Egypt also maintains a robust position across multiple significant maritime gateways.
The Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), released in June 2026 by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, places Tanger Med at sixth globally among 400 container ports. This ranking makes it Africa’s highest-ranked port, with Egypt’s Port Said following in 15th place and Djibouti in 53rd place.
