Research Developments at KALRO
At the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Beef Research Institute in Lanet, Nakuru County, scientists are integrating advancements in animal breeding, nutrition, and pasture development. Their goal is to enable farmers to produce heavier animals and better-quality beef at lower costs.
Catherine Ndungu, a research scientist specializing in animal breeding and genetics at the institute, highlighted the improved Boran breed as particularly promising for enhancing beef production, especially in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid regions.
