Leadership Changes in South Sudan’s Health Ministry
THE AFRICA TIMES | SOUTH SUDAN — South Sudan’s Minister of Health, Luke Thompson, has recently defended various leadership changes within the ministry. He challenged critics of these decisions to express their concerns through the legal system.
Criticism from Political Figures
This defense comes in response to criticisms voiced by Dr. Sunday De John, a medical doctor and political analyst. Dr. De John criticized the dismissal of Dr. Kediende Mapour Akec as Executive Director of the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) in an open letter.
According to Dr. De John, the removal stemmed from a dispute regarding vehicles allocated for Ebola preparedness. Minister Thompson allegedly ordered Dr. Kediende to hand over five of the ten donated vehicles, which the latter reportedly refused.
