THE AFRICA TIMES | QATAR — **Beirut, March 12, 2025** – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officials recently concluded a preparatory meeting. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) led the meeting. This sets the stage for GCC participation in the 2nd World Summit on Social Development (WSSD2). The summit is scheduled for November 4-6 in Doha. Preparations for WSSD2 The virtual meeting was organized with the Executive Bureau of the Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs of the GCC. Representatives from labor, social development, and foreign affairs ministries attended. The six member states were represented, along with officials from the GCC Secretariat. Discussions and Priorities Discussions occurred on March 10 and 11. Participants focused on key priorities for WSSD2. Officials reviewed a “Food for Thought” paper drafted by Belgium and Morocco. They are co-facilitators of the Summit’s Declaration. Participants outlined strategic areas the GCC aims to advance. This will happen during the global gathering.
