THE AFRICA TIMES | SOUTH SUDAN — Aweil — Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have detained a 38-year-old man accused of circulating counterfeit U.S. dollar notes in Aweil Town. Authorities state that an investigation is ongoing before the case is forwarded to court.
Detention and Investigation
The suspect, identified as Akol Mou Wol, has been in custody since July 14. State police spokesperson Madut Ngong Aleu briefed journalists in Aweil, confirming the details of the arrest.
Aleu stated that police apprehended Wol after receiving reports that he had been exchanging fake U.S. dollar notes with local traders and residents. “We have detained the suspect because he came into the state with counterfeit dollars. This is a serious crime because it cheats people into accepting fake money,” Aleu asserted.
