THE AFRICA TIMES | EAST AFRICA — East Africa will remain Africa’s fastest-growing region despite global economic headwinds. To sustain growth, governments must adopt innovative financing mechanisms and accelerate reforms, according to the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) in its 2026 East Africa Economic Outlook.
Regional Growth Projections
The report states that regional growth will accelerate from 4.3% in 2024 to an estimated 6.6% in 2025. However, it is projected to moderate to 5.9% in 2026 due to higher energy prices, geopolitical tensions, and tighter global financial conditions.
Key Economies and Challenges
Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia are identified as the region’s strongest-performing economies. Nonetheless, the AfDB warns
