THE AFRICA TIMES | CHAD — A major highway being constructed by an Egyptian contractor in eastern Chad is poised to enhance trade and transport links between North and Central Africa. This development will provide landlocked Chad with quicker access to Mediterranean and Red Sea ports, thereby reinforcing infrastructure cooperation between Egypt and Chad.
Project Overview
The 381-km (237-mile) Abéché-Amdjarass highway runs through Amzoer, Guéréda, and Iriba. It is being built by Egypt’s Arab Contractors under a $635 million contract. Completion is anticipated within three years and is part of Chad’s five-year program to expand its road network by 7,000 km by 2029.
