Resumption of Onion Exports to Ghana
Nigeria has resumed onion exports to Ghana following interventions from officials of both countries. This resolution comes after a market access dispute disrupted shipments to Accra’s Kotoku Market.
Background of the Dispute
The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) lifted its suspension of exports in August. Traders had reported issues such as truck seizures and difficulties unloading consignments that impeded access to the Ghanaian market.
Nigeria typically exports approximately 100,000 metric tons of onions to Ghana each year, according to NOPPMAN.
