THE AFRICA TIMES | LIBYA — The Libyan government, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is undertaking an initiative to safeguard the nation’s livestock genetic resources, according to Abdulhakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa.
Livestock Genetic Resources Preservation
This program aims to conserve the genetic resources of essential livestock species in Libya, including sheep, goats, cattle, and camels. These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy designed to enhance the resilience and sustainability of Libya’s livestock sector.
Elwaer highlighted that the initiative arises from a broader partnership between the FAO and Libya’s Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources. The collaboration focuses on supporting agricultural development, boosting livestock production, and ensuring food security.
