THE AFRICA TIMES | SOUTH SUDAN —
Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, the Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development, has made alarming statements regarding detained First Vice President Riek Machar. His remarks are likely to exacerbate the existing political tensions in a country grappling with a burgeoning crisis surrounding Machar’s arrest and the ongoing legal proceedings.
Accusations Against Machar
On June 14, during a meeting with local leaders in Upper Nile State, Gatkuoth accused Machar of consistently resorting to armed rebellion for personal gain. He expressed skepticism about Machar’s potential return to political life.
“Riek Machar is killing people for one single objective: to be a leader,” Gatkuoth stated. He further dismissed Machar’s claims concerning ethnic violence, asserting, “It is Riek Machar himself who is power-hungry.”
