YAMBIO – Yambio County’s Commissioner has banned foreign nationals from logging activities. The decision aims to address environmental damage and economic losses. The ban took effect after a consultative meeting.
The Commissioner emphasized the need to protect local resources. He stated that foreigners exploit these resources without benefiting the community. This exploitation deprives communities of essential resources.
Yambio County Bans Foreign Logging
Commissioner Michael Ismail Medi chaired a high-level consultative meeting. Youth leaders, women’s representatives, and security officials attended. They discussed environmental protection and public hygiene.
Medi stated that illegal logging devastated the county’s forests. Communities are losing firewood and construction materials. He noted that the practice undermines family incomes needed for basic needs.
Community Support and Security Measures
Deputy Chief Mombasa welcomed the ban. He pledged community support in reporting illegal logging activities. Local leaders will collaborate to protect forest resources.
Ongoing security concerns were also discussed. Residents were urged to enhance neighborhood watch programs. They should also report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
Public Hygiene Initiatives
Leaders stressed the importance of public hygiene. Regular cleaning campaigns aim to prevent disease outbreaks. These campaigns should improve public health and the town’s appearance.
Commissioner Medi highlighted the need for consistent participation. He stated that maintaining a clean environment depends on everyone’s effort.
Enforcement and Past Attempts
The Commissioner announced penalties for violating the logging ban. Penalties exist for neglecting public hygiene regulations as well. These measures protect the environment and foster unity.
Commissioner Medi urged citizens to respect regulations and cooperate. He wants them to take ownership of building a safer, cleaner county. The Commissioner’s office affirmed its commitment to transparency.
Challenges to Enforcement
Previous attempts to ban logging have failed. In 2023, Commissioner Mbiko Barakat also banned illegal logging. He cited threats to indigenous tree species.
Illegal logging persists due to conflicting authority. Inadequate enforcement and economic factors also play a role.
