Morocco, UN Boost Security Cooperation

Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco’s Director-General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, met with Faisal Shahkar on Tuesday. Shahkar is the United Nations Police Commissioner and UN Under-Secretary-General for Rule of Law. The meeting occurred in Marrakech.

Strengthening Cooperation

The meeting took place at the Menara Gardens complex near Bab Jdid. The 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly is being hosted there through November 27. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the UN and Moroccan security institutions.

According to Morocco’s national police directorate, the UN seeks a deeper security partnership. This partnership aims to enhance the capacities of UN Police. Enhancements would occur at the New York headquarters and in peacekeeping missions worldwide.

Appreciation for Moroccan Expertise

Shahkar highlighted the value of Moroccan police expertise. He cited the force’s operational experience and advanced training. Their linguistic abilities enable deployment in diverse regions.

The meeting is part of Hammouchi’s consultations with heads of delegations. They are in Marrakech for the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly. The talks aim to enhance security cooperation to address global challenges.

Addressing Transnational Crime

These talks seek to expand security cooperation. They also aim to build stronger partnerships. Transnational crime and emerging global security challenges need addressing.
