THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — Parents in Kericho County have been warned against involving children in arduous labor, including agricultural work on tea and coffee farms, hawking in towns, and domestic roles. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspected cases of child labor.
Child Labor Concerns Raised
This caution was emphasized on Friday during the commemoration of the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour at Kericho Primary and Junior School. Deputy County Commissioner Monicah Muli called for sustained public awareness to help parents understand their responsibilities in protecting children from exploitation.
Impact of Education on Poverty
Muli emphasized that education serves as a crucial tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, a primary driver of child labor. She noted that children who remain in school are better equipped to improve their future and elevate their families.
