Kenya Power Outage Hits Key Services, Sparks Fury

THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA —

Power Outage Disrupts Services in Terrabora

A power outage has impacted Terrabora estate and surrounding areas. Affected entities include the National Intelligence Service and Kenya Wildlife Service. Masalani water supply offices also experienced disruptions.

The incident occurred when a lorry struck power lines. The vehicle was repairing the road using a caterpillar tractor. This action led to a widespread power disruption.

KPLC Response and Repair Efforts

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) confirmed the incident. A team has been dispatched to restore power. These efforts are underway despite heavy rainfall.

Hezron John, a KPLC officer, is overseeing the restoration process. He assured residents that power would be restored soon.

Community Concerns and Appeals

Residents are appealing to political leaders for assistance. They want Garissa County Senator Abdul Mohamed Haji, and Governor Nathif Jama to act swiftly.

Area MP Abdi Ali Sheikhow has also been asked to intervene. Residents seek a dedicated KPLC substation for Masalani town in Ijara sub-county.

Delays and Past Incidents

Residents expressed frustration with delays in receiving assistance. Currently, they rely on support from Hola, located across the Tana River. The distance contributes to longer response times.

Recently, a dormitory fire at Yussuf Haji Girls’ Secondary school raised concerns. The fire was caused by a short circuit linked to the KPLC Hola substation.

Safety Concerns and Fire Preparedness

Residents fear potential damage to their electronic equipment. They worry about future fires due to power mishaps. Precautions are needed to prevent further incidents.

The community urged the county government to improve fire preparedness. Specifically, they requested firefighting equipment and fire brigade vehicles for the area.
