Trans Nzoia County Receives Medical Equipment Donation
Trans Nzoia County has received a significant donation of medical equipment. Unlimited Gospel Ministries International, a US-based organization, provided the equipment. The donation is valued at Sh30 million.
Governor George Natembeya received the donation at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kitale. He stated that this will greatly improve healthcare services in the county.
Partnership Praised
Natembeya welcomed the partnership between the government and the church. He considers the donation a landmark move, enhancing strides in equipping health facilities.
“Unlimited Gospel Ministries has proved to be our true friend,” Natembeya said. “This donation will help our people access quality medical care.”
Since 2022, the county has built several health facilities. These include Tom Mboya Mother and Child Hospital and Kwanza Sub County Hospital. Matunda and Kachibora hospitals were also constructed.
Plans for Expansion and Challenges
Governor Natembeya revealed expansion plans for Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital. This aims to ensure quality and timely services because of increasing demand.
Natembeya urged the national government to intervene in the Social Health Authority (SHA). He noted that disbursement delays are almost paralyzing activities. He warned hospitals might need to ask for cash payments.
Hospitals are owed millions and face shortages of staff. Limited resources hinder recruitment efforts. Delays in payments for services worsen this situation.
County Officials Welcome Collaboration
Dr. Pepela Wanjala and Lorot Kerior welcomed the collaboration. They urged other partners to offer similar support to the county.
Kerior praised the Governor for strengthening equipment programs. This aligns with the universal health coverage agenda.
The equipment includes bariatric, paediatric, and Intensive Care Unit beds. Birthing beds and wheelchairs were also donated.
County Secretary Truphosa Amere and Chief Officers Dr. Judith Simiyu and Omar Ndiema attended the event.
