THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — The government has launched a solar mini-grid programme aimed at expanding electricity access in remote regions of Isiolo County. This initiative is part of broader efforts to promote clean and affordable energy nationwide.
Programme Details
The first phase of the programme commenced at Kipsing in Oldonyiro Sub-County. More than 2,400 residents will benefit from a reliable electricity supply for the first time.
The project was inaugurated by Principal Secretary Alex Wachira from the State Department for Energy. He stated that the national government has allocated Sh9.6 billion for the establishment of 114 solar mini-grids across 14 counties.
Objectives and Expectations
Wachira emphasized that this initiative aims to bridge the electricity access gap in isolated areas outside the national grid. He noted that the programme would enhance livelihoods and stimulate economic growth in marginalized communities.
