THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — The government of Kenya will soon initiate farmer-led irrigation projects in Western Kenya, supported by the German Development Bank.
This initiative primarily targets smallholder farmers. It aims to provide subsidized irrigation equipment, climate-smart technologies, water pans, and innovative financing to lessen dependence on rain-fed agriculture, with the goal of enhancing food security.
Project Commissioning and Investment
During the commissioning of the Raongo Primary School Micro-Irrigation Project in Karachuonyo Constituency, the Secretary Administration of the State Department for Irrigation, David Yatich Kipkemei, represented the Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho. He noted that Homabay County is one of six counties in Western Kenya benefiting from this initiative.
