THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Barasa, has mandated the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to conduct immediate and comprehensive inspections of all facilities discharging waste into rivers and tributaries.
CS Barasa expressed concern that, for an extended period, rivers and other water sources have borne the brunt of industrial negligence through uncontrolled effluent discharge.

“It is estimated that over 70 per cent of wastewater generated in Nairobi is released untreated into the environment,” the CS stated. This situation exacerbates the crisis and extends its impact downstream.
