THE AFRICA TIMES | SOUTH SUDAN — President Salva Kiir has announced a donation of 500 million South Sudanese pounds to traditional leaders, artists, women, and youth groups during his visit to Greater Bahr El Ghazal, which he characterized as “private.”
Controversy Surrounding the Presidential Tour
The president’s journey through Northern Bahr el Ghazal, passing through Western Bahr El Ghazal and Warrap state, sparked controversy due to claims of financial expectations among accompanying officials. Earlier media reports indicated that Mr. Kiir dismissed senior officials anticipating cash distribution during the trip, citing a lack of funds.
“As you can see, all government officials have come here thinking that I am here to distribute money to the people, but I don’t have it,” he stated.
