Integration of SPLA-IO Forces in Western Equatoria
The Government of Western Equatoria State has announced renewed efforts to integrate 1,280 former Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) fighters into the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), one year after their defection.
Governor’s Engagement and Commitment
Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa has intensified discussions with military commanders and former opposition leaders to expedite the long-delayed integration process.
During a meeting with officers who defected in 2025, Rimbasa emphasized that delays in integrating the ex-combatants have resulted in some armed personnel lacking clear deployment or command structures.
