Civil Society Condemnation
The Central Equatoria State Civil Society Network (CESCSN) condemned the murder. They stated that the killing raises significant human rights and security concerns. The organization highlighted similar cases of young men killed with knives this month.
Human Rights Concerns
Constitutional Rights Violated
CESCSN asserts that the killings violate human rights. They cited the Constitution of South Sudan’s Bill of Rights. It guarantees the right to life, dignity, and bodily integrity.
The network expressed alarm that killings occur inside the town. These incidents suggest a concerning security breakdown within Yei. They urged security authorities to conduct an immediate and credible investigation.
Call for Action
Government Urged to Intervene
The civil society coalition called on the state government to act. They want reinforcement for Yei County authorities. This action addresses the worsening security situation.
The security situation includes road ambushes, abductions, and targeted killings. Failure to act swiftly could undermine public safety. It could also discourage the return of displaced persons and stall economic recovery.
Appeal for Peace
The organization appealed to citizens to renounce violence. They urged embracing peaceful coexistence. South Sudanese were encouraged to live in peace and harmony during this season and beyond.
