UNICEF Reunites Children with Families
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has successfully reunited 11 children with their families in Warrap State. These children were discovered serving in military training camps, despite their underage status, according to local authorities.
County authorities confirmed that six children were received in Warrap State while five others returned to their homes in Western Equatoria State. This reunification marks a significant step in addressing the issue of child recruitment in armed forces.
Background of the Children’s Recruitment
Joseph Ngong Ngong, Executive Director in the Office of the Commissioner of Twic County, provided insights into the situation. He stated that the children had arrived from Unity State, where they may have joined military ranks either voluntarily or through coercive recruitment efforts currently under investigation.
