THE AFRICA TIMES | TANZANIA — Tanzania inaugurated a significant $2.9 billion hydropower project on Saturday, contributing an impressive 2,115 megawatts of electricity to its national grid. This landmark facility, known as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant, was constructed by an Egyptian corporate consortium.
The ceremony was officiated by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. They unveiled a commemorative plaque and toured the expansive Rufiji River complex. Madbouly represented Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, highlighting Cairo’s strategic support for the initiative.
