Syria’s President Ahmad Al Sharaa declared that the nation will enter a new reconstruction era. He delivered this promise in a speech on Monday, marking one year since Bashar Al Assad’s regime collapsed.
President Sharaa’s Address
Sharaa spoke at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus after leading dawn prayers. He wore a military uniform and addressed the Syrian people with a message. The message focused on determination and national unity.
“No one, no matter how great, will stand in our way,” Sharaa stated. He also noted that, “no obstacle will stop us, and together we will face every challenge, God willing.”
The president pledged to restore Syria’s strength through dedicated reconstruction efforts. These efforts will honor both the country’s current conditions and its historical heritage.
Furthermore, Sharaa stressed that rebuilding will extend across the entire nation. This rebuilding aims to encompass the country from north to south and east to west.
Reconstruction Priorities
Sharaa outlined key priorities for the upcoming phase. He intends to focus on supporting vulnerable populations across Syria. Ensuring justice for all Syrians remains paramount.
During the ceremony, Sharaa placed a Kaaba cloth inside the mosque. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman gifted the cloth.
Transition of Power
This anniversary signifies a dramatic shift in Syrian leadership. Assad, after ruling for almost 25 years, fled to Russia last December. His departure ended the Baath Party’s six-decade grip on power, which began in 1963.
Sharaa’s transitional government took shape in January. Subsequently, this marked a new chapter in Syria’s turbulent history.
The country faces the enormous task of rebuilding. This follows years of civil war and authoritarian rule under the Assad family.
