Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, has experienced a series of fatal traffic incidents. Locals report that three separate motorcycle accidents resulted in two fatalities.

Details of the Incidents

The first accident occurred on Thursday in Aweil East County. Anei Chan Geng, the County’s Director of Land and Survey, was struck by a motorbike on Dokul Highway. He was traveling from Wanyjok to Malual-Baai.

Geng later succumbed to his injuries. The motorist who struck him also reportedly died shortly after the incident.

Another accident happened on Monday in Aweil South County. A motorbike and a pick-up truck collided, resulting in a fatality.

The conductor of the pick-up truck died in the collision.

Community Reaction

Adut Deng, a local resident, expressed the community’s shock. The death of Anei Chan Geng, a prominent figure, has deeply affected many.

Deng stated Geng was en route to Malualbaai for road survey duties. He collided with another rider who later died at Malualkon hospital.

Traffic Police Statement

Diing Reech Diing, the director of traffic police in Aweil, commented on the accidents. He reported a similar accident in Aweil South County on Monday.

The accident resulted in the death of a pick-up truck conductor.

Causes and Contributing Factors

Reech attributed the accidents primarily to over-speeding. He emphasized poor riding and driving habits as significant factors.

Negligence and poor road conditions also contribute to the frequency of fatal accidents. Authorities continue to investigate the underlying causes.
