THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — Nigerian Thriller “Over the Bridge” to Premiere in Nairobi The Nigerian psychological thriller, Over the Bridge, will premiere in Nairobi cinemas on June 6, 2025. The film marks the debut release from Screen Connect. This Pan-African distribution initiative aims to connect African audiences with culturally significant films. Screen Connect launched in 2024 to address distribution gaps within Africa’s film industry. The initiative is a part of the Moving Pictures program by Some Fine Day Pix and GIZ. Its focus includes making films from different African countries accessible to strengthen African storytelling. Screen Connect’s Mission Cassandra Onwualu, Screen Connect co-founder, emphasized the challenge of accessing films from other African regions. The initiative aims to promote local talent and contribute to the growth of African cinema. This is planned through partnerships with filmmakers and cinemas. Onwualu, alongside co-founders Marete Selvin and Mizero Kabano Yannick, chose Over the Bridge as their first theatrical release. Screen Connect plans to expand its presence in African markets with more films. About “Over the Bridge” Directed by Tolu Ajayi, Over the Bridge tells the story of Folarin. Folarin is an investment banker whose life unravels after a government project goes wrong. The film stars Ozzy Agu, Segilola Ogidan, and Joke Silva, blending corporate intrigue with personal turmoil. Ajayi said the film is drawn from his corporate internship experience in Lagos in the 1990s. This background provided a deeper look at the social consequences of success and its impact. Awards and Recognition Over the Bridge has garnered significant recognition, receiving 12 nominations at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. In the competition, the film won Best Cinematography and Best Production Design. During June, the film will be showcased at Century Cinemax Junction, Garden City, and Two Rivers in Nairobi.
