Rapid Support Forces Regain Control of Kurmuk
On Thursday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced the recapture of Kurmuk in southern Blue Nile State from the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). This development follows a month after the army had successfully retaken the strategic border town during a counteroffensive.

Sources familiar with the conflict have indicated that drones targeted positions in and around Kurmuk in the early hours of Thursday. Following these aerial strikes, RSF ground forces advanced from the Ethiopian border.
This military action coincided with the RSF’s recent capture of Geisan, another pivotal locality in southeastern Blue Nile, indicating a significant escalation in hostilities. The Sudanese military had recently regained considerable ground in this area.
