THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — Turkana County has begun a new phase of environmental and social safeguards screening. The focus is on projects under the 2024–2025 Financing Locally Led Climate Change Action (FLLoCA) programme.
FLLoCA Programme Screening
This exercise seeks to verify compliance with environmental safety standards. Projects must adhere to social safeguard policies defined in the national FLLoCA framework.
The goal is to ensure that current and past interventions followed established guidelines. These guidelines are crucial for sustainable development.
Community Involvement
Local communities actively participate by supplying essential on-site information. This information aids in crafting detailed screening reports. The reports will inform future actions.
Project Inspections
Inspections have taken place at three projects so far. These include Poya Borehole, Kabulokor Irrigation Scheme, and Nalamacha River Protection Works. These projects represent different sectors.
More FLLoCA-funded projects across the county will undergo screening. These screenings are scheduled for the coming days.
Screening Team
The multi-agency screening team includes several key individuals. Edung Emase, the Director of Climate Change, leads the team. The team also includes experts in social services, environment, and water resources.
