Kericho Sitting Volleyball Team Wins Big!

THE AFRICA TIMES | KENYA — Kericho’s sitting volleyball team from Kipkelion excelled at the inaugural KKK tournament. They defeated the Ainamoi sub-county team in the finals. The event took place at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium in Kericho County.

Sitting Volleyball Tournament Concludes

The mixed-gender team showcased strong performance. The victory was a straight-sets win of 1-0. Their scores reflected their dominance: 25-20, 25-22, and 15-10.

The players, all with physical disabilities, demonstrated hard work. Their dedication was clear, reflecting their month-long training. Senator Aaron Cheruiyot sponsored the KKK tournament.

Coach Applauds Team and Sponsor

Head coach Paul Byegon praised the team’s performance. He also appreciated the sponsor’s support for athletes with disabilities. He spoke to KNA about the team’s future.

Byegon hopes to create a strong Kericho team. He wants to harness the talented players identified at the event. He urged people with disabilities to participate in competitive sports.

Disability Inclusion in Sports

Geoffrey Bill, former Kericho MCA and representative for persons with disabilities, attended. Sitting volleyball is for athletes with physical disabilities. Lower limb impairments are common among players.

Sitting volleyball follows rules similar to traditional volleyball. Teams hit the ball over a low net while seated. The sport promotes inclusion and athletic ability.
