THE AFRICA TIMES | BENIN — The Gangbé Brass Band from Benin persists in enthralling audiences worldwide. Their electrifying blend of voodoo jazz, Afrobeat, and funk remains popular. After 30 years of global performances, the band is returning to the Africa Festival in Würzburg, Germany. Gangbé Brass Band: Rhythms of Benin Formed in Cotonou in 1994, Gangbé Brass Band is more than a brass ensemble. Eight talented musicians embody the rhythm and voice of a vibrant, evolving Africa. “Gangbé” means “the sound of metal,” reflecting their signature brass instruments. A Unique Musical Fusion The band blends traditional voodoo percussion with Afrobeat from Fela Kuti’s legacy. They also incorporate jazz, funk, and festive polyphony. Gangbé creates an irresistible and joyous musical experience. Performances become colorful, high-energy celebrations, turning concerts into carnivals. Lyrics in Fon, Yoruba, Creole, French, and English, broadcast unity. Discography and Collaborations Throughout their history, the band has produced impactful albums. Among them are Togbé, Whendo, Go Slow to Lagos, and NOD. Gangbé has collaborated with Femi Kuti and Jean-Philippe Rykiel. They have toured internationally, including a 35-date European tour early in their journey.
