THE AFRICA TIMES | BOTSWANA — Gaborone, Botswana – April 15, 2025 New Dutch Ambassador Accredited to SADC The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to South Africa has presented her credentials. Her Excellency Joanne Doornewaard is also accredited to Botswana. She formally presented her credentials to the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The diplomatic ceremony was held in Gaborone on Monday. Ambassador Doornewaard gave her letters of credence to SADC Executive Secretary, Mr. Elias Magosi. The meeting signified the start of her official engagement with the regional bloc. Scope of Diplomatic Mission The Dutch Embassy in Pretoria serves as a diplomatic mission. It covers four SADC member states: Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini, and Lesotho. This reflects the Netherlands’ interest in stronger regional cooperation. Areas of Collaboration Ambassador Doornewaard and Mr. Magosi discussed key areas of mutual interest. They agreed to pursue closer collaboration in sectors. These sectors include peace and security, energy, and food systems. SADC’s Commitment to Collaboration Mr. Magosi congratulated Ambassador Doornewaard on her new role. He expressed SADC’s readiness to collaborate with the Netherlands. This aims to advance regional development and integration goals across the region.
